A NIGHT OF CELEBRATION FOR NISSAN MICRA N-SPORT AND LEAF e+ AT THE 2019 SCOTTISH CAR OF THE YEAR AWARDS

Added: 02 November 2019

The latest generation Nissan LEAF e+ and Micra N-Sport have been officially recognised at the 2019 Scottish Car of the Year Awards. The Micra was named ‘Small Car of the Year,’ whilst the LEAF e+ picked up ‘Alternative Fuel Car of the Year’.

Introduced in January 2019, the Micra N-Sport was praised by the judges for its new IG-T 117PS petrol engine, commenting that it was “huge fun to drive!” John Murdoch, President of the Association of Scottish Motoring Writers said, “The Micra stands out for its crisp, neat styling, but what made it a runaway winner for ASMW members was the way it drives and the superb value for money Nissan provides.”

The N-Sport grade delivers more performance and improved efficiency with a dynamic drive and sporty styling. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are available as standard, helping drivers stay connected. The Micra delivers impressive safety standards with all models fitted with Intelligent Emergency Braking with Pedestrian Recognition, Intelligent Lane Intervention, Lane Departure Warning and High Beam Assist. Thanks to these important technologies, the Micra is awarded a five-star EuroNCAP safety rating in the UK.

The Nissan LEAF, the world’s first mass production electric vehicle and a model that has sold more than 430,000 globally since 2010, was also celebrated.

The extended 239 mile range (WLTP) of the latest generation LEAF e+ was praised by the judges who said that it has “a real-world range and quick charging.” The 62kWh battery pack offers 55% more capacity and approximately 25% improvement in energy density while retaining a similar dimensions to the 40kWh LEAF battery pack; all without compromising the vehicle’s exterior design and interior space.

Murdoch added, “The judges loved the LEAF to drive thanks to the added performance of the e+, which makes it a great car regardless of what energy is turning the wheels.”

Nic Verneuil, marketing director, Nissan Motor (GB) Ltd added; “We are extremely proud that both Micra N-Sport and LEAF e+ have been recognised by the Association of Scottish Motoring Writers. Both models are stand out examples of Nissan’s Intelligent Mobility direction, with advanced connectivity, efficient powertrains and impressive safety technology as standard. The LEAF’s Intelligent Power-enhanced battery enables drivers to spend less and go further and we are delighted that this award recognises the increasing adoption of electrified powertrains.”

The Scottish Car of the Year Awards have been running since 1997 and are judged by the Association of Scottish Motoring Writers. There are twelve category winners and four other special accolades. The 2019 event was held on November 1st at The Dalmahoy Country Club and Hotel near Edinburgh.
